In the western half of the empire, the Brisigavi iuniores is listed as one of auxilia palatina units in the Magister Peditum's infantry roster; it assigned to his Italian command. Its shield pattern as shown in various manuscripts is as below:

Shield patterns

Disclaimer: remember, I'm not an expert in the field of Notitia studies, so take my comments with a grain of salt...

The shield pattern has a violet rim (faded to maroon in M, but white in W, B, and possibly Ff) with a yellow inner band bordering the rim; the main field of the shield is red (but white in W), and is dominated by a very large face in red (purple in B) with fiery hair and a beard, and probably representing a solar visage, at least in O, P and M; the faces of W, B, and Ff look rather more demonic.

Although there is evidence that many labels attached to the shield patterns illustrating the western auxilia platina have been shifted from their proper place, it is not clear that this has happened to this unit; it may well be labelled with the correct shield pattern.

The name Brisigavi is tribal, and often, as in Ammianus, spelled Brisgavi; it belongs to a sub-branch of the Germanic Alamanni; the name lives on in the modern German region named Breisgau; there is also a Brisigavi seniores listed in the Notitia: it is the previous unit listed before the Brisigavi iuniores in the Magister Peditum's infantry roster, and is assigned to the assigned to the "Comes" Hispenias.
