Dutchflag. The Armoured Cruiser "De Ruyter" .Dutchflag

This page last modified: June 30, 2000

Surely the ugliest vessel to ever 'grace' the skies, De Ruyter was designed to be the flagship of the Dutch colonial forces. As such, De Ruyter is out-fitted with a small heliograph signalling station to communicate with both ground forces and other vessels.

Main armament comprises two short barrelled 8" guns in a large turret in the bow of the ship; these weapons are now due for replacement with more modern 6" weapons. Secondary armament consists of four 4" guns in side sponsons, and a 5" gun in the rear turret. The capacious hull is well armoured, and is fitted with ample coal bunkerage.
