Main armament comprises two short barrelled 8" guns in a large turret in the bow of the ship; these weapons are now due for replacement with more modern 6" weapons. Secondary armament consists of four 4" guns in side sponsons, and a 5" gun in the rear turret. The capacious hull is well armoured, and is fitted with ample coal bunkerage.
